200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Course India and Netherlands : FAQ
What is a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training?
A “200 hour Yoga Teacher Training” is the international education standard for yoga teachers. With a 200 hour yoga instructor certification you can teach everywhere in the world. Most of the yoga federations like Yoga Alliance, European Yoga Association, International Yoga Federation, etc, accept 200 hour training as a minimum standard to be recognized as a certified yoga teacher for anyone wishing to register with them.
What does a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training include?
Though this division of hours can vary according to different yoga associations, a certified training program must include following minimum hours to qualify for a professional 200 hour yoga teacher training:
- 50 hours of yoga asana and pranayama
- 20 hours of asana alignment and modification techniques
- 40 hours of teaching practice
- 30 hours of yoga Philosophy
- 15 hours of anatomy and physiology
- 30 hours of meditation and chanting
- 15 hours of self study
Out of these 200 hours, a minimum of 165 hours must be contact hours with the teachers. The Arhanta Yoga 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Course India provides 200 contact hours, with 70 hours of yoga teaching practice in 26 days.
What is the duration of a 200 hour yoga teacher training?
A 200 hour training course can take any amount of time, there is no minimum or maximum duration. Most of the 200 hour yoga teacher training’s have a duration stretching from 3 weeks to 2 years. Most of the students prefer a training period of around 4 weeks as they receive intensive training in a short period. Some students prefer 2-3 year long training programs, which are less intensive and can be followed at a slower pace.
It is important to know that the duration of the training does not say anything about the quality of the training. The quality depends on the teachers and the curriculum.
What are the benefits of 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training courses?
One of the main benefit of a 200 hour yoga teacher training course is that it can be completed in a short period of time and that you can start teaching as a certified yoga teacher after only one month. Though 200 hours sounds like a very short period, the Arhanta Yoga 200 hours course has proved to be a life changing experience for many students. In particular, the intensively structured daily schedule helps to develop discipline and efficiency, which is challenging for many people.
By following this course you can become a recognized yoga teacher anywhere in the world. Even though these courses are short term (4 weeks or one month) they are generally intensive yoga training programs, during which you learn the theoretical and practical side of teaching yoga. A good yoga certification course will help you to develop teaching skills and confidence in teaching yoga. As these courses are short term they are much more oriented towards practical and hands on practice rather than just theory about yoga.
What is the ratio of theory and practice?
A good course should have a good balance of practice and theory. To become a good yoga teacher you need to know the history and background of yoga, but you also need to practice teaching intensively to develop understanding and confidence in teaching.
At Arhanta Yoga Ashram you will practice teaching every day for 3 hours, starting from the first day of the course.
How does one month 200 hour training compare with a three year long course?
The curriculum of a course and the quality of the teachings is more important than the duration of the course. Long term courses are spread over a period of time and are therefore much less intensive. Due to the gap of time in between the classes, the learning is very slow. It is also found that these courses focus mainly on the theory part, which does not help you to develop skills and confidence in teaching, just as reading a book on driving a car can’t give you the required skills and confidence to actually drive a car.
What opportunities will I have after graduation?
After successful completion of the training you can work as a certified teacher. There are numerous job opportunities available for internationally certified Yoga teachers, for example:
- Yoga schools
- Fitness studios
- Health clubs
- Wellness centres
- Hotels and resorts
- Running your own yoga studio

“The Arhanta Yoga TTC has a straightforward and clear approach to training asana teachers. The program is set up so that you can experience a taste of the lifestyle that the philosophy describes. Daily asana practice ensures that everyone walks away stronger and more aware of their bodies, and a variety of meditations, chants and pranayama help each student to turn their focus further inwards. All of the teachers were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and approachable. This teacher training has make me feel confident about my ability to teach, find a job and implement parts of the yoga philosophy into my own life.” Anna, USA
“The yoga teacher training course at Arhanta is a disciplined program, which is very helpful for maintaining focus on the learning process. I have learned much more than I expected to be possible in one month. What I especially experienced as helpful was that the teachers encouraged me to cross my boundaries, come out of my comfort zone and ask any questions. In short, I never expected to be a sufficiently confident and professional yoga teacher after 1 month, but thanks to the intensive and encouraging program I feel that I am, and I am very grateful for that.” Lana, The Netherlands
“In a short time Arhanta has made it possible to set up a schedule which trains you to be a confident yoga teacher. I am really thankful for this course. It was a great adventure and I can see the improvements I have made from the beginning. I was very insecure, untrained and I had no goals. Now after one month I feel that my practice has improved hugely and I feel very confident to teach. I totally enjoy it and if feels more and more natural. A big thank you to Arhanta, and the people who have joined me on this adventure that changed my life and helped me gain a new view on life.” Maike, The Netherlands

I have had the immense pleasure of learning from good-natured teachers who truly embody the yoga philosophy and who offer quality lectures and classes. I couldn’t have asked for a better learning experience and I feel confident that my peers and I are well equipped with all necessary roads to success as yoga teachers. I warmly recommend this school! Om Shanti.” Maelle, Norway
